Hey Everyone!
I’ve got another video for you about how to create this BINGO! anchor activity board for ELA.
This board is easy to make (and super cute, in my humble opinion 🙂 and will be a perfect addition to your ELA classroom.
If you give this a try, I’d love to hear about it!! Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the videos I’ve been making… do you like the format? Do you find them helpful? Cheesy? So, please leave me a comment! It would be great to hear from some of my readers 🙂
(These 100 Writing Prompt Task Cards featured in this video are available here!)
(The BINGO! letters are available to print here!)
Happy Teaching!!
UPDATE: I’ve had many teachers ask for the “directions” that you see on this bulletin board. Here is a JPEG that you can print and hang up if you’d like (just click on the image and you should be able to print!)…
Where did you get the letters you used to make the word BINGO?
I made them… I just put a link in the blog post that will take you to them. They are free 🙂 Thanks for reading!!
Hello! I love this activity! I was wondering if the bingo directions are someplace to be printed, thank you!
Hi Alise! I don't currently have them available, but they may be saved on my computer at school. If I have them, I'll put a link on this page. Thanks for reading!!
Great idea. This is the first time I have found your resources (via Pinterest). Thank you for the videos; I look forward to watching many more and exploring your site.
I LOVE this idea! I teach 2nd grade, so I've had to adapt a bit, but I still LOVE it! I've got my board made, and can't wait to implement this with my kids. I'm going to make it a 6-week project with a rubric and students will earn points for each writing. It should be about the same amount of work as grading 2 middle-school level writings. 🙂
How do you collect the writing and check that the kids got a "bingo" on their card? Do the kids get cards??
Thank you!
Julie

Hi Julie!
No, the kids just get a BINGO sheet and color in the ones they did. I keep this VERY informal. If kids would rather do five cards that don't necessarily make a BINGO, I'm cool with that. The purpose is just to keep them writing, writing, writing! The writing that the kids do here is done in their Writer's Notebooks, so no "grading." I'll skim through some of them during a writing conference, but that's about it. I believe that kids need to be writing significantly more than I can grade (I like Kelly Gallagher's idea that you should only be able to grade 25% of what they actually write). This BINGO board just give them lots of time to practice writing with interesting topics.
Hope that helps!
Jenna
Thank you so much for sharing your resources! I also appreciate hearing your philosophy about keeping the kids writing. Kelly Gallagher has so many good practices!
Can you share the ELA flags for the Bingo bulletin board? Please?
I would love the ELA flags! Do you have those available?
I lost the flags in the great computer crash of 2015… but if you check out my TpT store, I have a "Welcome" banner and an "I {heart} Reading/Math" banner that contains all the letters to spell out E-L-A.
Thanks!
Hi!
Do you offer any sort of incentive or reward for doing the writing task? I teach middle school and I often find that it is hard to get them to do any extra work – especially writing!
I don't… but, I take a looooong time to establish writer's workshop in my work. I find that when I take the time to really get this going, the students are much more self-motivated 🙂

Thank you for this great idea! Do you have anything like this for math or science?
I would love to see your second grade adaptation! I teach second also. This is a wonderful idea, but wasn't sure how to make it second grade friendly…
I am still unable to print when clicking on the image. Am i doing something wrong? Would love to have the directions!
Are there Earth Science and Math BINGO boards comparable to the ELA board shown in this blog?
I am sure you could use ANY task cards for ANY subject for this. Just change the heading from ELA to Science BINGO, or Math BINGO, etc… Just a thought. Tasks cards are available for anything imaginable.
Jenna, I think I LOVE you! (to the tune of the David Cassidy song) I've recently returned to the classroom (high school ELL) and I am amazed at your creations. Thank you so much for all you've done, you are truly creative and gifted. THANK YOU!
Cecilia
Thank you so much! You made my day 🙂
Hello. I love the Bingo Idea. Since I teach middle school and have multiple classes, how would you suggest that I do this? If you put up the writing prompts with velcro, do the students select it and return the prompt at that time? For some reason, I keep thinking I have to put up layers of prompts. Or should I have them to record the title on their bingo sheet?
I LOVE the videos! Please keep them coming.
